Complex lush greenery versus soil death and desertification is a key struggle of our time1. Leaf surfaces actively regulate temperatures, with hundreds of environmenrtally responsive stomata per square milimeter of underside, breathing coolness2. Some say that as much as one half of land surfaces are now bared of live cover. Humans in close contact worldwide have historically found niches to magnify live bounty, pruning, planting and herding ruminants to speed growth and soil return. I, Shana, 3 Streams Farmer, am exploring traditional and new ways of feeding livestock tree matter which they love, while improving biodiversity through creation of Foliage Height Diverse “air meadows,” both at 3 Streams Farm and the Cattail & Sky blueberry field.

1 This struggle is exacerbated by our culture’s detachment from lufe-sources. Manual labor for our sustenance engages all our senses. Close contact and familiarity (read: “like family”) with uther species, and our surroundings as a whole, lead to health-supporting activity, informed by feedback from surrounding life.

2 How does this happen? Phase change of water to water vapor locks infrared sun energy into moleculare bonds of cool vapor. The vapor travels elegantly through time and space, to condense and release heat somewhere cold, for instance 2 kilimeters up to make rain, or onto cold morning grass needing warmth to begin photosynthesis (which then adds more cooling!), Thank you, Jan Pokorny for explaining this.
